NightCap App Reviews

This app is so awesome, I have been telling about it to every friend/colleague/family, and their moms and dads about this app. This app is processor intensive. If you feel its too slow, blame it on your older phone, not the app. I love this app for one other reason: To show it off to the Mega Pixel addicts who have a higher MP smartphone (non-Apple), and theres no way their phones can match what this app does! Go ahead, buy this app, itll be the best 99 cents you spend on an app thats made for low-light photography

Works But...

With iPadmini stableized this takes the best low light pictures of any of my camera apps. It will take one picture and then reopen with half a window. The app then needs to be quit before again becoming useable.

App closes as soon as you open it

This app is pretty much useless, every time I open it up, it quits unexpectedly within 30 seconds. Waste of money.

Brilliant low light performance

Genius use of the camera APIs, low light performance is excellent, good UI, and night to actually see what ISO and exposure you are shooting at.

NightCap

Cannot take a picture without the app crashing.

Not bad. Provides some level of exposure control, but not enough.

This app provides a limited amount of exposure control for the iphone 5s camera. You can set a manual shutter speed, and the app will figure out the rest of the exposure parameters, within limits of the device. The native iOS7 camera app takes nearly as good photos as this app does, but you have slow exposure control with this one, if youre doing tricky shots like night portraits, where you need to fire the flash to light up the subject, but you need delay to get the background; and for that sort of use, its pretty good. Where it lacks, and what I was hoping for with this app, was full (or fuller than this) P/A/T/M exposure settings. I want full manual exposure control; f-stop, ISO, shutter speed, and this app doesnt do it. So, 3 stars. For $0.99, its probably worth the money, providing you one extra control for the camera, but youre still not going to be able to leave your tiny point-and-shoot camera at home if youre planning to take pictures. This mostly extends the range of utility in the "whoops, i forgot a real camera" situation.

Captures low light images that now other app can

This app is a lifesaver. No other app (and I have hundreds) has been able to do what this app does - capture beautiful, non-grainy, photos. One caveat - you gotta hold the iPhone very still (dont breathe). That, or use a tripod. Also, the subject must not move. However, in the wee morning hours (when its just beginning to get light), and Im in bed and look over to catch my puppy snuggled in my husbands arms and theyre both asleep, and I gotta snap a photo of that moment, this app is the only contender, and it exceeds in the task. Its these moments, and others with similar conditions, that would have been lost without Nightcap.

Simple and effective

Allows for much longer exposure. Quick and easy.

Closes after I take a photo

I dont want to give this an app a bad review...but the app keeps shutting down after I take a photo. will the creators please fix the issue with the app? Please? Its only 99 cents but if you expect people to pay please make sure the app actual works. Thx.

Great for what its for!

As a specialty camera for taking pictures at night this is my favorite. Im an avid hiker and camp quite a lot and have found this to be my favorite app for late evening shots of scenery or landscapes.

Night cap rocks

I am an avid photographer. As far a apps go for night or dim setting this one is by far the best.

Almost perfect

Please please please add a zoom feature. Ive been using this on my iphone 4 and now my 5s. Sometimes zooming is preferred for auto exposure to work correctly. Otherwise, this makes my 5s look almost nearly comparable to entry dslrs. A bit more of a reason to keep the camera at home.

Disappointed

Crashed after taking the first two pictures. You have to stay absolutely still otherwise the photos are blurry. I was hoping for more than just long exposure...

wow

i just got this and it is so awesome! i went into my pitch black storage room with no windows or lights to test this app. when i took a pic with my regular camera app, i just got a black screen. when i took a pic with nightcap, it could see everything in detail! nice app, definatly a must have.

Better than expected

It really does take impressive pictures at night.

Failed to work after upgrade

The up graded app no longer works on my iPad 2 with IOS 7.1. Just get a black screen with no image and no photo capture. This used to be a good app, but its useless now.

Great App, but disappointed that the maximum exposure time on the 5S is only ½ second

Although this app (and other apps that take time exposure pics) can take 1 second exposures with many iPhones, it can NOT take a 1 second exposure with Apple’s flagship iPhone 5S. On the 5S the maximum exposure time is only ½ second. This 50% loss of exposure time forces the app to ramp up the ASA and creates more graininess. This is not the developer’s fault. I hope Apple loosens its grip on the API for this functionality and lets the developer increase the exposure time on the 5S to a full one-second.

Still doesnt work

Since it still doesnt work, even after the latest update, Ive gotta give it 1 star. Its been broken for a long time now.

Love love love

Yay!! I deleted the app and the reinstalled it. Either that or another upgrade fixed the microphone problem. Five stars!! Current 1-star review: DO NOT download the update. It REQUIRES that you give the program access to your microphone when it starts. Without the access, the program wont work even for photos. I get that you "need" audio for video - though in many places, thats illegal. But now I cant even use the camera without giving access to my microphone. What a disappointment. To make matters worse, it also mentioned geofencing. I turned that off on my phone but am now concerned that the program overrides my iPhone settings. If that isnt fixed soon, Ill be deleting the app and most certainly not paying to upgrade. I dont need other things draining my battery and spying on me. Original 4-star review: I love this app. It takes amazing pics in the dark. The only thing thats a little challenging is time - having to hit several buttons to "lock" the focus and light before taking a pic and also just the load time. But I put up with it because the pics are so much better than the standard camera!!

Very cool app updated to unusable.

This was one oft favorite camera apps. Now its unusable. The iOS 7 update makes the interface sluggish and the maximum length for a manual exposure was dropped from 1 sec. to 1/14 of a second. I used to take pictures in near complete darkness. Now a light needs to be on, making this app pointless.
